MEMBERS of Shepton Mallet's Knit and Chat group have knitted hats for the Age UK Innocent smoothie campaign.

This year the knitters surpassed themselves by creating some 430 mini hats.

Knit and Chat organiser Eileen O'Grady said: "We are continuing to raise funds for our nominated charity this year of the Air Ambulance and will be having a stall at the switching on of the Christmas lights where we will be selling items and raffling a quilt made by one of our members. Last year we were able to give a donation of £600 to Somerset Riding for the Disabled Association and we would like to think we can raise a similar amount again."

Group members are busily knitting Christmas decorations. Some will be used as prizes in their Christmas raffle and some will decorate a tree at the Shepton Baptist church Christmas tree exhibition.

Knit and Chat meets at the Dusthole Café at 10.30am- noon every Wednesday.
