A man who allegedly assaulted the landlord of a Castle Cary pub has been ordered to stand trial in December.

Joel Christopher Mitchell, 21, of Church Street, Wincanton, pleaded not guilty at a previous appearance before South Somerset Magistrates to a charge that he assaulted Kevin Messenger by beating.

The court was told that the alleged incident occurred outside the White Hart pub on April 2 this year where the victim was the licensee.

The case had previously been set aside for a trial but the date had been postponed. When the case was put before the magistrates again a new trial date was fixed for December 12.

Until then the defendant must remain on conditional bail on the understanding he does not attend the White Hart public house in Castle Cary.
